Family Medicine Residency Program
The Family Medicine Residency Program at SJHS is designed to train medical professionals to provide comprehensive medical care on a continuing basis for individuals and families.
The Family Medicine Residency Program is one of the nation's first family medicine residency programs. The program has maintained full accreditation from the American Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) since it began in 1971. Furthermore, over 240 residents have graduated from the program. Our host institution’s administration is unanimously supportive of the residency.
Our curriculum is structured to offer our residents maximum flexibility with the acknowledgement of the many paths available to family physicians. As an unopposed program, our residents learn early independence in a well-supported and positive environment in all areas of medicine. Special emphasis is given to a well-rounded education including obstetrics, procedures, and the care of the family unit.
Many optional track programs are offered, including a nationally recognized Global Health Track. SJHS also hosts a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. Community outreach and health care for the indigent are also prime activities within the program.
Our Family Medicine Center, which offers our residents unparalleled training in a technologically advanced environment, opened in the summer of 2012. All of our full time physician-faculty members are active in obstetrics. Through our clinic alone, or residents deliver more than 300 babies annually and have primary involvement in the care of all Obstetric patients at the hospital.
