
Anesthesia
The goal of the Anesthesia rotation is to provide the podiatric resident with exposure to the principles of anesthesia. The training experience includes direct participation in evaluation and management of the anesthesia patient in the peri-operative setting.
Emergency Medicine
The goal of the Emergency Medicine rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to emergency medicine management in an acute care setting. The training experience includes observation/direct management of emergency medical cases.
Family Medicine
The goal of the Family Medicine rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to a variety of medical pathology in a primary care setting. The rotation will include direct participation of the resident in an outpatient clinic setting. The resident will be exposed to training experience that shall icnlude, but not be limited to, treatment of patients with endocrine, rheumatologic, dermatological, respiratory, and vascular pathologies. The resident will also be exposed to common Family Medicine problems.
General Surgery
The goal of the General Surgery rotation is to provide the podiatric resident with exposure to the treatment of pathology in non-podiatric surgical cases. The training experience includes direct participation in evaluation and management of a variety of available surgical disciplines that include general, orthopedic, vascular, and plastic surgery.
Infectious Disease
The Infectious Disease rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to management of patients with complex infectious disease process. The training experience is held in both hospital and outpatient clinic and involves direct participation in daily rounds with emphasis on case management. The podiatric resident is dedicated to this 2-week module and is responsible to call at the discretion of the attending physician.
Internal Medicine
The goal of the Internal Medicine rotaiton is to expose the podiatric resident to hospital management of general medical pathology. The training experience includes performing complete history and physical examinations and case management.
International Health
The International Health rotation is an elective available to 2nd & 3rd year podiatric residents. The IHT containes three main components: 1) an evening Seminar series; 2) a noon conference series; and 3) an Elective Field experience or course work devoted to international health lasting 2-4 weeks. The field experience is a supervised clinical training experience in a foreign or domestic setting with an underserved population. Alternatively, the resident may choose to attend a course with an emphasis on tropical disease and international health. Financial assistance is provided for the Field Experience or course work. In order to qualify for financial assistance the resident must participate in activities of the IHT from the start of the first year and meet all requiremetns of the IHT. The resident must involve the Director from the onset to assist with the program and the planning of the field experience. Duration of this experience, location, and time the rotation can be taken are at the discretion of the Director.
Medical Imaging
The goal of the Medical Imaging rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to various applications and indications of radiographic techniques to assess the status of podiatric patients.
Orthopedic Surgery
The goal of the Orthopedic Surgery rotation is to provide the podiatric resident with exposure to the treatment of pathology in non-podiatric surgical cases. The training experience includes direct participation in evaluation and management of a variety of available surgical disciplines that include general, orthopedic, vascular, and plastic surgery.
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
The goal of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to pathology techniques used to identify soft tissue and bone pathology, and identify the clinical implication of lesions diagnosed. The training experience includes direct participation in anatomic pathology with slide review emphasizing bone and soft tissue pathology of the lower extremity. The experience also includes exposure to the working pathology laboratory emphasizing microbiology and diagnostic testing.
Physical Therapy
The goal of the Physical Therapy rotation is to provide the podiatric resident with a diversity of exposure and training experiences in rehabilitating lower extremity injuries and disease. The resident will have direct participation in diagnosis and therapeutic management with an emphasis on regaining appropriate lower extremity function.
Podiatry Clinic
The goal of the Podiatry Clinic rotation is to provide the podiatric resident with a diversity of training experiences in podiatric pathology. The training experience will emphasize non-surgical intervention, preventative medicine, and patient education. The rotation includes direct resident participation in the diagnosis and treatment of the podiatric patient with holistic interdisciplinary approach.
Podiatric Surgery
The goal of the Podiatric Surgery rotation is to provide the podiatric resident a diversity of operative cases, techniques and procedures on the foot and ankle. The resident will develop the skills and judgment to perform pre-operative care to patients requiring podiatric foot and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery.
Research Paper
The podiatric resident will be directed through a methodical protocol to create a research question in podiatric related areas. A research proposal will be designed that defines the research problem, literature review, research design, methodology, and conclusions.
Rheumatology
The goal of the Rheumatology rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to a variety of rheumatological pathology in an office setting. The training experience will include direct participation in diagnosis and management of patients with rheumatological disease.
Wound Care Clinic
The goal of the Wound Care Clinic rotation is to expose the podiatric resident to lower extremity wound assessment and management in a multi-disciplinary setting. The resident will be directed in developing wound care protocols and participate in continuity of care.
