Family Medicine Center

Family Medicine Center

Doctor with child patient

The Family Medicine Center functions as a private office with regularly scheduled office hours. In all cases, patients are selected as family units in order to provide the experience of caring for an entire family.

On June 11, 2012, the Graduate Medical Education Program, including the Family Medicine Center, moved to a new 24,000 square foot location in the Medical Office Building connected to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. The beautiful, new offices are more spacious and modern for our residents, faculty and valued patients. Our physicians and all of the services and programs we provide are now available at our new location, including:

  • Family Medicine Center
  • Family Medicine Faculty Physicians
  • Foot & Ankle Center
  • Pharmacy Clinical Practice
  • Medication Assistance Program
  • Diabetes Education

Our new proximity to the hospital increases convenience and access for our residents and faculty. In addition, it gives our patients access to expanded care, including laboratory, X-ray, pharmacy and a full array of other outpatient services within the Medical Office Building and connected hospital.

Each resident spends time in the Family Medicine Center: a minimum of one half-day per week the first year, two half-days per week the second year, and three half-days per week the third year. Residents have their own assigned families for whom they are responsible.

On average over the past two years, our graduates have seen over 1,900 patient visits during their three years of residency. They will see entire family units, from newborns to grandparents. The clinic also provides Obstetrics care for women of the community. Residents deliver an average of over 300 babies annually in The Family Birthplace.

Our clinical pharmacist organizes an indigent drug program, which provides a variety of prescription medications to our patients at a reduced cost. He also participates in resident teaching through didactic sessions and one-on-one consultations.

Residents are able to grow proficiency in a wide variety of procedures during their training at the Family Medicine Center, including:

  • Anoscopy
  • Casting/Splinting
  • Colposcopy with biopsy
