| Resident physicians wishing to pursue an interest and further their knowledge in the area of Hospital Medicine will have several opportunities to do so during their Family Medicine Residency at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Residents’ individual goals can be met in a block rotation format (residents have six months of elective time available), as well as longitudinal experiences over the resident’s three years).
While the core curriculum of the Family Medicine Residency at SJRMC consists of seven months of inpatient general medicine, as well as several more months of medicine sub-specialties (Cardiology, Rehab, etc.), residents will have the ability to spend additional time learning hospital-based medicine. Residents may use elective time to do rotations with the hospitalists within SJRMC, or with other hospital-based physicians (intensivists, pulmonologists, cardiologists).
Residents will also be directed in their reading in both professional journals as well as textbooks to further their expertise in this area. Several national educational conferences are now available, and the resident can be given direction as to ones that will best fit their needs and goals. The annual CME benefit of 5 days/$1500 can be used towards attending these conferences.
