| Resident physicians wishing to pursue an interest and further their knowledge in Acupuncture and Complimentary Medicine will have the opportunity to do so during their Family Medicine Residency at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Resident physicians can become familiar with the basics of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Cervin. Dr. Cervin, who is the Medical Director for the Sister Maura Brannick Health Center, actively practices acupuncture and complimentary medicine.
During a resident physician's three-year stay, they will be able to arrange opportunities to learn the skills of acupuncture – both at the Family Medicine Center, as well as private physicians offices. A resident’s individual goals can be met in a block rotation format (residents have six months of elective time available), as well as longitudinal experiences over the residents three years.
This “hands on” experience will be supplemented by directed reading in a number of journals and textbooks, as well as the use of several websites and video resources. Further instruction as well as educational experiences can be made available through medical education conferences that focus on acupuncture. The residency provides 5 days/$1500 per year to attend such medical education conferences.
