The Family Medicine Residency Program of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center is one of the nation's first residency programs, having received its accreditation in 1971. Since then, the program has maintained full accreditation from the American Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Furthermore, over 150 residents have graduated from the program, all of whom have become Board Certified following its completion.

The members of Saint Joseph hospital administration unanimously support the program, which emphasizes procedural skills, obstetrics and workshops (including ALSO).

A fully-funded optional International Health Track is available, as is a Sports Medicine Fellowship. Community outreach and health care for the indigent are also prime activities within the program.

Our spacious Family Medicine Center is staffed with a full-time pharmacist and behavioral scientist. All of our Family Medicine physician faculty are active in obstetrics. We also offer a high-risk obstetrics clinic staffed by obstetricians. At the Family Medicine Center, our residents deliver more than 400 babies annually. They also have "hands on" involvement in the care of all Family Birthplace patients. The program is noted as well for the variety of its Senior Student Electives.
