"When asked why I chose St. Joe or how it has prepared me for my career, I realized the answers are similar. I chose St. Joe because it was an unopposed program with an international health track and wonderful people to work with. Being unopposed, it allowed us to do a lot more than we would have been allowed to do in a larger institution. That variety has allowed me to do whatever I want in Family Medicine, which is very broad. Soon, I will be starting as an associate director at a residency program. Hopefully, I will be as good of a teacher as I had modeled for me at St. Joe."

"I would recommend SJRMC Family Medicine Residency to anyone considering long term medical missionary work. The program has a long and successful history of sending residents on international medicine rotations. The support from faculty and other international health minded residents will be invaluable! The procedural skills I learned have served me well now that I'm a solo physician at a small maternal-child mission hospital in Cameroon. Every time I do a pelvic or OB ultrasound, I am thankful for the tutoring from faculty and specialists I received. Additional thanks for my training in c/sections, vacuum/forcep deliveries, high-risk OB, derm procedures, casting, joint injections, paracentesis, etc. Even though I didn't receive training, per se, in I.U.D and Implant placement, I have the basic skills and have been able to perform them without difficulty now. Stay posted for more stories from Africa as I continue working here over the next five years. If you want to do an international rotation here; you are most welcome!!!"

"St Joseph Family Medicine Residency gave me excellent preparation for a primary care sports medicine fellowship, which I pursued at The Toledo Hospital. I feel that the experiences that I gained working with Steve Simons, MD gave me a great start into the sports medicine field, and the opportunities I had to publish, present a case at a national conference, and sideline at local high school games prepared me well to apply to fellowship. In addition to allowing me to pursue my interest in sports medicine, St Joe also gave me the tools I need to be an excellent family physician. The faculty work hard to create good learning opportunities, and the friends I made in the residency are second to none. St Joe was a great place for me to spend my three years of residency - and getting to watch the Irish play football every fall was not a bad perk!"
